What is Physics?
Physics, as define by Google, is "the branch of science concerned with the nature and properties of matter and energy. The subject matter of physics... includes mechanics, heat, light and other radiation, sound, electricity, magnetism, and the structure of atoms."
The physics department is actively engaged in the following research areas: Computational Physics, Materials Physics, Physics Education, Optical Physics, and several multidisciplinary research projects. The Department of Physics at Oregon State University has an active graduate-level research program and offers degree programs leading to Ph.D., M. S., B. S., and B.A. degrees in physics (within the College of Science ), and the B. S. degree in engineering physics (within the College of Engineering ). Many options within the physics degree are available, and we also offer a minor in physics. Our interdisciplinary degree in computational physics is receiving national recognition as a model program.
